Sophie Hendin
Sophie is the founder of Kenyan School Fund and is Head of Art at a secondary school in Ipswich. When on holiday in Kenya she decided to visit an orphanage run by Samwel Manda, so inspired by his dedication and work Sophie started to help raise money for the home. Together they soon established the Hendin Academy and founded the Soma Leo Academy. She has been committed to fundraising since 2007 and with the help of the local community has helped Kenyan children the opportunity to access education. Sophie has been shortlisted for “Inspirational Fundraiser” at the prestigious International Women’s Awards and attend the event in Chelsea. She has also been a finalist in the Star of Suffolk Awards ” Un-Sung Hero” category and a finalist in the “Excellence in Teaching ” category at the Suffolk Raising the Bar Awards. Sophie also has a rare neurological condition that causes full paralysis and can effect her sight and movement, her dedication through adversity in helping others is truly remarkable.
